NBM 2011 & programs 2012
NBM 2011 and 2012 Programmes
CISV Montreal hosted its first national board meeting (NBM) on November 10, 11, 12, and 13th 2011. Chapter chairs, JB’s, and observers from Canada’s eleven chapters, national board and committee members along with two international observers attended this four day meeting that included a Gala with over 120 guests on November 12th. The meetings and Gala took place at Centre St Pierre in Montreal’s gay village while most travelling guests lodged at Hotel Labelle.
CISV’s NBM is an annual event and is hosted by a different chapter each year on a rotation system. CISV Montreal earned its privilege to host the NBM 2011 after having achieved full chapter status related to hosting its first Village in 2010.
Highlights from this year’s NBM included the election of new national board and committee members as well as national board and committee members for the JB’s. Updates from a variety of committee’s were presented of which leadership training and development, risk management, and special programmes such as the Peacebus and JB North Summit were most notable. National financial statements were also reviewed and discussed along with programme and chapter fees. Few changes moving into the 2011-12 year are forthcoming and fee structures saw only minor fluctuations with some programme fees slightly increased while others slightly decreased.
The now infamous hockey draft always presents itself as an important highlight to the NBM shadowing the intensity and fun of Saturday evening’s Gala. The importance of the hockey draft determines international programme opportunities as chapters choose travel destinations based on a pre-determined selection process.
Montreal fared well in this year’s selection process for 2012 programmes earning Villages in Norway and Brazil (for 11 year old children), a Summer Camp in Germany (for 14 year old youth), Youth Meeting in Florida (16-18 year old youth), and a Junior Counselor position in Mexico (for a 16/17 year old female) as well as an International Interchange with Denver, Colorado (for 12/13 year old youth). There is also an opportunity for a JB to take part in an international Seminar Camp along with possibilities for JB’s to take part in the National Camp hosted by Waterloo, Ontario along with the Peacebus whose enormous 2011 success will reserve seats for 2 youth to travel across Canada and engage in community building and peace/social justice education issues along the way. More information on these exciting opportunities will be forth coming.
Finally, CISV Montreal and its capacity to have hosted NBM 2011 was made possible only through the contributions of chapter members who dedicated their time and energy toward making it the success it was. It is only fitting to acknowledge and thank these individuals who made the NBM possible. This includes: Diane, Carole, Hughes, Renaud, Sue, Anick, Nadia, Clara, Noémie T., Emilie, Marie-Eve, Noémie C-K, Benoit, Michel, Ezra, Francois, Jacob, and our CISV’s National president Steve and treasurer Sylvie. Many, many, thanks!
