Leadership

As you have probably already figured out, CISV offers amazing international programs for youth and adults alike! Many of our youth travel in delegations of four to ten and are accompanied by adult leaders aged 21 and over.

CISV adult leaders are:

  • one of the main keys to the success of any CISV program
  • from all walks of life, but often university students or teachers versatile and dedicated to cooperative living
  • able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills with both adults and youth
  • organized and committed
  • fun people

Adult leaders are full participants in all international programs, whether it's a Village, Interchange, Summer Camp, or IYM. You can expect to participate fully in the development of the program and be immersed in camp life, although your role would be slightly different depending on the program. For some, you would be actively planning the program, whereas for others, you would play a facilitation and support role for the youth.

Staffing opportunities for all international programs are also available, both abroad and locally when Vancouver hosts a program.

There is a significant commitment involved in preparing for and participating in an international program. We would be thrilled to talk to you about that commitment and what it requires from you.

In return for your volunteer commitment, CISV provides a full training program at the local and national levels and pays for First Aid training. The parents of each delegation cover the leader's participation fees, airfare, and other related program expenses. You can expect to cover your own passport application fee (if required) and spending money while travelling.

If you are interested in applying to be a leader for an international program, you must:

  • submit an application form and references
  • supply a police record check
  • participate in an interview process
  • attend all training (including one national-level training weekend)
  • attend key information/social events run by the chapter, including at least one mini-camp (preferred)
  • share the goals and values of CISV with your delegates
  • cover costs associated with passport applications and personal expenses
